  2. They begin in February 1875 when Ruskin paid his last visit to the sick and dying Rose La Touche. They end a week or so after she died, three‐and‐a‐half months later. Collingwood calls this period of Ruskin's life ‘a time of crisis’—a return to ‘the old‐fashioned piety of his age’.

The part written in 1861 are short fragments of a recount of a trip to Italy, while the part written in 1867 concerns mainly religious subjects.
