Some critics, including Humphrey Littleton, believe that, in the 30s, Eldridge had exceeded Louis Armstrong to become the premier “hot jazz” trumpeter of his era.

Although this performance in Sweden was presented by the famous jazz promoter Norman Granz as part of his Jazz at the Philharmonic format, this concert clearly departs from the usual jam session scheme.
Hace 3 días · As I expected, Kellso is absolutely terrific on this session. Dig his solo on the opening track, which sounds like Roy Eldridge with a mute. Alexander’s own playing is well-schooled and shows a decent amount of creativity within a narrower range. He won’t blow you away with his brilliance, but he won’t disappoint either.
