Rutherford B. Hayes. U.S. president and Ohio native Rutherford B. Hayes was born on October 4, 1822, in Delaware, Ohio. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio, served two non-consecutive terms as Governor of Ohio, and became the 19th President of the United States. He served one term as President from 1877-1881.
