One of the most fascinating aspects of the record is how it offers the chance to hear The Clash writing and playing free from the pressure of being The Clash. It’s Sandinista!’s Sister. Here, I speak with Ellen Foley about her memories of how it came about.
Sandinista! is the 4th studio album by The Clash, released in 1980. It followed the legendary and critically acclaimed 1979 album London Calling.
Sandinista! is the lowest charting album for the Clash in their native United Kingdom. However, the album was influential in the punk rock movement with its experimental sound and was voted best album of the year in the Pazz & Jop critics poll in The Village Voice.

There was every reason to think the stars would align for her with Spirit of St Louis. But, much like the Clash's Sandinista! released the previous year, the album is all over the place.
Aunque por momentos es un poco desparejo, Sandinista! contiene gemas como “Hitsville U.K.” (homenaje cantado a dúo por Mick Jones y Ellen Foley dedicado al impacto que tuvo en el Reino Unido el Motown, famoso sello de la música soul norteamericana), “Ivan Meets G.I.Joe”.
