Shakuntala Paranjpye (17 January 1906 – 3 May 2000) was an Indian writer, actress and a prominent social worker. She was a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council during 1958–64, and served as nominated member of Rajya Sabha during 1964–70.

In 1991, when she was 85, Shakuntala's pioneering work in family planning was finally recognised and she was awarded India's civilian honour, the Padmabhushan. Shakuntala Paranjpye died on 3 May 2000, at the age of 94. Sai Paranjpye went on to become an internationally acclaimed Indian film director and scriptwriter.

She is a recipient of Padma Bhushan in 1991 for her tireless work and success in the field of family planning since 1938. The popular control of Maharashtra at present attributes a lot to the activities of this social worker.

SHAKUNTALA PARANJPYE (1906-2000) Shakuntala Paranjpye was an actor, writer and social worker. She was the daughter of the educationist and diplomat Sir R.P. Paranjpye, the first Indian to qualify as a Senior Wrangler in mathematics from Cambridge and India’s High Commissioner to Australia from 1944 to 1947.
