The krone (Danish: [ˈkʰʁoːnə]; plural: kroner; sign: kr.; code: DKK) is the official currency of Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands, introduced on 1 January 1875. Both the ISO code "DKK" and currency sign "kr." are in common use; the former precedes the value, the latter in some contexts follows it.

The Danish Krone, also known as “DKK,” is more than just a currency; it's a key part of Denmark's story. As the country's official currency, it reflects Denmark's history, culture, and how it does business with the world. The DKK has been around for a long time and has changed along with Denmark.
The banknotes have been designed by the artist Karin Birgitte Lund and feature motifs of Danish bridges and archaeological finds. From 2020-2025, security-upgraded versions of the banknotes, called the 2009A banknotes, will be issued. Both the 2009 and 2009A series will be valid means of payment until the launch of the new banknote series in 2028.
The Danish Krone is the legal tender of the Kingdom of Denmark – and also of the Faroe Islands and Greenland, two Danish territories. The krone is sometimes referred to by its translation into English – “crown.” It is subdivided into 100 øre, which are comparable to cents in most dollar-denominated currencies.
