Holly wrote this song, but gave Curtis the songwriting credit for flying down to the session. His best-known singles from this period are "Soul Twist"—his highest-charting single, reaching number one on the R&B chart and number 17 on the Billboard pop chart —and "Soul Serenade."

King Curtis. King Curtis ( Curtis Ousley, Fort Worth, de Texas, 7 de febrero de 1934- Nueva York, 13 de agosto de 1971) fue un músico estadounidense de soul jazz, southern soul, R&B y hard bop, saxofonista tenor. Su carrera se truncó a los 37 años cuando fue asesinado a manos de unos fanáticos del crack, politoxicómanos.
