  5. The St. Louis Browns opened their new ballpark, New Sportsman’s Park on April 27, 1893 against the Louisville Colonels. This ballpark, consisting of a wooden grandstand was the home to the team for 23 years. Constructed primarily of wood, it was a firetrap, as fire struck the ballpark in April 1898 and May 1901.
