Stanbridge Earls School [1] [2] in Hampshire has a vast history. The main house in Audley Stanbridge Earls is a Grade II* listed building. [3] Its history dates back to Saxon royalty, with links to King Alfred the Great and the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale .

Historic Development. Stanbridge Earls is reputed to be the place where Ethelwulf, King of the West Saxons and father of Alfred the Great died and was buried. However, it has not been proven. After 1066 various families possessed the estate.
