Ígor Fiódorovich Stravinski fue un compositor ruso nacionalizado francés y posteriormente estadounidense. Nació en Oranienbaum, actual Lomonósov,Rusia,el 17 de junio de 1882 – Nueva York y falleció el 6 de abril de 1971.
Estos ballets tienen varias características compartidas: están hechos para ser interpretados por orquestas sumamente grandes; los temas y motivos argumentales se basan en el folclore ruso; y llevan la marca de Rimski-Kórsakov tanto en su desarrollo como en su instrumentación.
