Notes on Sunyata & Inner Landscapes by Mike Griffin of Hypnos. Robert Rich and I first discussed the possibility of a CD version of Robert’s out of print cassette release Inner Landscapes in 1998. Hypnos was brand new, having just released a few CDs by relative unknowns, while Robert’s profile within the genre of ambient music was ascendant.
Sunyata (1982) is the debut album by the American ambient musician Robert Rich. The title refers to śūnyatā, the Buddhist concept that all things in the material world are empty of meaning and independence. Overview [ edit] The album was recorded during Rich’s studies at Stanford University.
by Jim Brenholts Sunyata is Robert Rich's debut album. Originally released on cassette in 1981, he remastered the recording for Hypnos in 2000. This is deep and dark minimalism from a time when very few artists were performing in that mode.
Sunyata: The original cassette release of "Sunyata" contained an additional track "Sunyata (Emptiness)", omitted here. It now appears on the 2-CD Trances/Drones. "Dervish Dreamtime" recorded at Studio M in Palo Alto, with Ron MacLeod. "Oak Spirits" recorded live at Stanford University. Remastered by Robert Rich at Soundscape, Mountain View, 1999.
