The Shadows formed as a backing band for Cliff Richard under the name The Drifters. The original members were founder Ken Pavey (born 1932), Terry Smart on drums (1942), Norman Mitham on guitar (1941), Ian Samwell on guitar and Harry Webb (before he became Cliff Richard) on guitar and vocals. They had no bass player.

Smart announced yesterday that he will retire in August, after 14 years with the electronics retailer. He will be succeeded by chief financial officer Richard Murray.
CEO Terry Smart calls it: “cementing what our real competitive advantages are”. Whatever you call it, electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi is still standing while others falter. The darling of retailing during the GFC, JB Hi-Fi has had a tough few years. In April, the company posted a shock profit downgrade that sent its share price to a three-year low.
