Deer Hunter (originaltitel: The Deer Hunter, Finland: Hjortjägaren) är en amerikansk film från 1978 i regi av Michael Cimino. Robert De Niro spelar huvudrollen. Filmens berättelse, som handlar om tre soldaters liv kring Vietnamkriget , har tagit inspiration från romanen Kamrater av Erich Maria Remarque (vars handling kretsar kring första världskriget i 1920-talets Tyskland ).
"The Deer Hunter" is said to be about many subjects: About male bonding, about mindless patriotism, about the dehumanizing effects of war, about Nixon's "silent majority." It is about any of those things that you choose, if you choose, but more than anything else, it is a heartbreakingly effective fictional machine that evokes the agony of the Vietnam time.
He finds a small group of survivors, women and children, hiding in a small bunker. He casually arms a grenade, tosses it in and walks off as it explodes. Moments later he sees a woman, badly injured, carrying a baby. The soldier mercilessly shoots her. Mike springs up and blasts the soldier with a flamethrower.
