The Hill of Dreams features Lucian Taylor, only child of an impoverished vicar, growing up in the small Welsh town Caermaen, based on real-life Caerleon. Even as a schoolboy Lucian’s isolated, preferring to spend his time buried in a book, avoiding his classmates who regard him as peculiar.
