The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a comedy science fiction franchise created by Douglas Adams. Plot summary. The novel opens with an introduction describing the human race as a primitive and deeply unhappy species, while also introducing an electronic encyclopedia called the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which provides information on every planet in the galaxy.
