The novel was serialized in 1901–02 and was published in book form in 1902. It was the first Sherlock Holmes tale since the detective’s ‘death’ in the story ‘The Final Problem’ (1893).
Hugo captured and imprisoned a young country girl at his estate in Devonshire, only to fall victim to a marauding hound of hell as he pursued her along the lonesome moors late one night. Overview. The Hound of the Baskervilles is a detective novel written by Arthur Conan Doyle, first serialized in The Strand Magazine from August 1901 to April 1902.
