Plot. The film (public domain) Gaspard (Lon Chaney), a French fur trapper, returns from a trip to find his sweetheart Thalie (Dagmar Godowsky) romantically involved with a newcomer named Benson (Alan Hale). Gaspard then learns that Benson has also acquired ownership of Gaspard's mine through a legal technicality.

After Benson is imprisoned, Gaspard takes in his child and sends it to the village school. Upon the father's release, Gaspard, fearing to lose the child, captures a half-starved wolf, which he conceals as a trap for Benson.
