Thomas Andrews Hendricks was born on Sept. 7, 1819, near Zanesville, Ohio, but his family moved to Indiana the following year. His father was a farmer and a deputy surveyor of lands; his grandfather served in the Pennsylvania legislature, and his uncle William Hendricks was a governor and United States senator from Indiana.
The Thomas A. Hendricks Monument is a public artwork by American artist Richard Henry Park and is located on the southeast corner of the Indiana Statehouse grounds in Indianapolis, Indiana.
