Shortly after Thomas Boylston returned to America in 1798, he struck up a correspondence with Ann, and by 1802, Abigail Adams felt she knew Ann well enough to approve of the match. “She is a serious, solid, sensible, amiable woman, qualified I think to make a good wife,” Abigail wrote.
