Thomas Charles Hart (June 12, 1877 – July 4, 1971) was an admiral in the United States Navy, whose service extended from the Spanish–American War through World War II. Following his retirement from the navy, he served briefly as a United States Senator from Connecticut .

The Thomas C. Hart was launched on 12 August 1972 and was sponsored by Penny Hart Bragonier (Mrs. Reginald), eldest granddaughter of Admiral Hart and daughter of Lieutenant Commander Hart. The ship was commissioned on 28 Jul 1973 and was the last combatant ship to be commissioned at the Boston Naval Shipyard.
