Thomas Fitzherbert was born on 30 August 1746, the son of Thomas FitzHerbert and his wife Mary Theresa Throckmorton. He was baptised in St Mary's church, Swynnerton, Staffordshire. [1] In 1778 he married Maria Anne Smythe , widow of Edward Weld , but died without children in Italy in 1781.
When Campion and Persons commenced their memorable mission, Fitzherbert put himself at their service, and helped Campion in the preparation of his "Decem Rationes" by verifying quotations and copying passages from the fathers in various libraries, to which it would have been impossible for the Jesuit to obtain admission.
