  5. Thomas Harrison, the second of four children and the only son of Richard and Mary Harrison, was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme, in July, 1616. His father was a butcher and four times mayor of the town. He was educated at a local grammar school, and then became a clerk to solicitor Thomas Houlker of Clifford's Inn. (1)
