Brigadier-General Sir Thomas Pakenham, 5th Earl of Longford, K.P., M.V.O. was born on 19 October 1864. He was the second suriving son of William Pakenham, 4th Earl of Longford of Pakenham Hall, Castle Pollard, Westmeath (Commoner 1831-1836) who served in the Crimea and is commemorated in the Cloisters at Winchester College.
