Timothy Leonard Spall (born February 27, 1957) is an English actor and presenter. He became a household name in the UK after appearing as Barry Spencer Taylor in the 1983 ITV comedy-drama series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. Spall performed in Secrets & Lies (1996), and was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Although Timothy Spall first worked with Mike Leigh in the 1990 film Life is Sweet, his performance in Leigh’s 1996 Secret & Lies showcased for many his remarkable emotional range. As with most of Leigh’s films, the actors worked with the director to workshop the story and their characters until they have a fully developed story to film.
