Tom Rainey. Born in Santa Barbara, California, Tom Rainey was a drummer who moved to New York City in his early twenties. He had studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1975 before returning to California to settle in San Francisco. In the early 1980s, the Brooklyn resident began to play jazz in the city.
