17/11/2022 · Trinity Hall is home to a friendly community of undergraduate and postgraduate students, tucked away on a beautiful riverside site by the city centre. It is one of the oldest colleges of Cambridge University, founded in 1350.
Trinity Hall (formally The College or Hall of the Holy Trinity in the University of Cambridge) is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge.  It is the fifth-oldest surviving college of the university, having been founded in 1350 by William Bateman , Bishop of Norwich , to train clergymen in canon law following their decimation during the Black Death .
The College clock is housed in one of the oldest buildings in Trinity: King Edward’s Gate, otherwise known simply as the clock-tower. This gate originally formed a grand entrance to King’s Hall, a foundation which was dissolved in 1546 and joined with Michaelhouse to found the new College of the Holy and Undivided Trinity.
In its infancy Trinity had owed a great deal to its neighbouring college of St John's: in the exaggerated words of Roger Ascham, Trinity was little more than a colonia deducta [clarification needed]. Its first four Masters were educated at St John's, and it took until around 1575 for the two colleges' application numbers to draw even, a position in which they have remained since the Civil War.

There is a vibrant sense of community at Trinity Hall with an active Junior Common Room which organises a diverse range of activities making the Hall an ideal place to make friends and get acquainted.
