  1. Borland, the school’s first dean, was elected to Congress in 1910 and was succeeded by Ellison, who served as dean until the School of Law merged with the University of Kansas City in 1938. After affiliating with the University of Missouri system in 1963, the school assumed its current name. The law school moved to UMKC’s main campus in 1974.

This course will provide an introduction to the U.S. Legal System, including the powers of the different branches of government, checks and balances on governmental powers, function and importance of the Constitution, the importance of judicial power and the common law, the role of administrative regulation, and the functioning and importance of Federalism.

  3. Mikah K. Thompson re-joined the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2018, where she had been a full-time faculty member from 2005 to 2011. She teaches the following courses: Civil Procedure I, Evidence, Race and the Law, and Employment Law. Professor Thompson’s research centers on the intersection of evidentiary law and race.
