The college was founded in 1884 in York Place, Brighton, as a boys' secondary school and moved to its current site (overlooking the city and the sea) in 1932, later attaining grammar school status, becoming Varndean Grammar School for Boys, administered by the Education Committee for the County Borough of Brighton.
Varndean College is very proud of the fact that students who study here do significantly better than would be expected of them based on their GCSE results they come here with. In the Department of Education's "16-18 Schools and Colleges Performance Table for Value Added" Varndean College is in the top 10% of UK schools and sixth form colleges.
Participation in Enrichment Activities, such as clubs, societies, visits, work experience and work-related activities. The college day runs from 8.40am - 4.10pm for most students.
