About Vassar College. Founded in 1861, Vassar College is a liberal arts institution with a main campus in Poughkeepsie, a town in the southeastern region of New York state that is 85 miles from New York city. The college is named for brewer and merchant Matthew Vassar. At first a women’s college, the institute has been co-educational since 1969.

The Early Decision Plan is intended for candidates who have explored and researched their college options carefully and concluded that Vassar is their clear first choice. Vassar has two early decision deadlines: November 15 and January 1. Candidates who use the first deadline will hear from Vassar in mid-December.

Jinchen (Monika) Hu received her BS in Computing Mathematics from City University of Hong Kong and her PhD in Statistics from Duke University, North Carolina. Her research interests lie in developing Bayesian statistical methodology for applied problems that intersect with the social sciences.

Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024, Alumnae House was gifted to Vassar College by sisters Blanche Ferry Hooker, class of 1894, and Queene Ferry Coonley, class of 1896. They intended it to be a center for the activities of the alums of the College, but more importantly wanted all alums to have a welcoming space that they could call home when returning to campus.
