Veronica Lake remained in England for the next few years before returning to the United States. During a trip to Vermont in 1973, she was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, a result of her years of drinking. Veronica Lake died on July 7, 1973, at the University of Vermont Medical Center. She was 50 years old.
