Dagestan ( / ˌdæɡɪˈstæn, - ˈstɑːn / DAG-ə-STA (H)N; Russian: Дагестан; IPA: [dəɡʲɪˈstan] ), officially the Republic of Dagestan, [a] is a republic of Russia situated in the North Caucasus of Eastern Europe, along the Caspian Sea. It is located north of the Greater Caucasus, and is a part of the North Caucasian Federal District.

Official website. Dagestan is a federal subject of the Russian Federation in the Caucasus region. The name comes from two combined Turkic and Persian words, dag which means mountain in the Turkic languages, and stan which means land in the Persian language.

La república de Daguestán es una de las veinticuatro repúblicas de la Federación de Rusia. Su capital es Majachkalá. Está ubicada en el distrito Cáucaso Norte, en el extremo suroeste del país limitando al norte con Stávropol y Kalmukia, al este con el mar Caspio, al sur con Azerbaiyán, al oeste con Georgia y al noroeste con Chechenia.
La República Islámica de Daguestán, conocida oficialmente como el Estado Islámico Independiente de Daguestán, era un enclave wahabí autónomo no reconocido, que existía en el territorio del actual raión de Buinaksk de Daguestán a finales del año 1990.
