The Princess eventually became Mary, Duchess of Gloucester and Edinburgh, with her marriage at the age of 40 to her cousin, Prince William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh, on 22 July 1816. Their relationship was by several accounts not a happy one, with the Duke leaving her for long periods of time.
