St Mildred’s is a historic family Church of England Church in the heart of the Whippingham Community. This site has been a place of worship since at least Norman times, and was frequented by Queen Victoria when in residence on the Isle of Wight.
Whippingham is one of a tiny band of small village churches which have become closely linked with neighbouring Royal residences and therefore have a very great many beautiful, interesting and historical features. St Mildred's on the Isle of Wight is surely an outstanding example of this little group, as a visitor will soon appreciate.
St Mildred's is the church of Whippingham Parish which used to extend to Shide (south of Newport) and North to the sea at East Cowes. The churches St Paul's Church, Barton and St James's Church, East Cowes were originally Chapels of Ease within the area of Whippingham Parish.
Mildred's. There are many treasures to be seen, but here in Whippingham we do not worship a God who is only present in history. e are an active church family and there is a service of worship held here each Sunday to which we warmly invite you.
