A noted composer, his songbook is a list of bebop’s greatest hits; ‘Salt Peanuts,’ ‘Woody ’n’ You,’ ‘Con Alma,’ ‘Groovin’ High,’ and ‘A Night in Tunisia’ all became jazz standards.
