Peelite. The Peelites were a breakaway dissident political faction of the British Conservative Party from 1846 to 1859. Initially led by Robert Peel, the former Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader in 1846, the Peelites supported free trade whilst the bulk of the Conservative Party remained protectionist.

Whiggism is a political philosophy that grew out of the Parliamentarian faction in the Wars of the Three Kingdoms (1639–1651). The Whigs advocated the supremacy of Parliament (as opposed to that of the king), tolerance of Protestant dissenters , and opposition to a " Papist " ( Roman Catholic ) on the throne, especially James II or his descendants. The term “Whig” was originally used as a pejorative term to describe those who opposed the absolute monarchy of the Stuart kings, particularly James II, during the late 17th century.
Political parties. The Whigs were a political faction and then a political party in the Parliaments of England, Scotland, Ireland, Great Britain and the United Kingdom. Between the 1680s and the 1850s, the Whigs contested power with their rivals, the Tories. The Whigs merged into the Liberal Party with the Peelites and Radicals in the 1850s.
