Wilhelm Keitel served as chief of the Supreme Command of the Wehrmacht from 1938 to 1945. He loyally supported Hitler’s policies and shared responsibility for the war of annihilation in eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. On 8 May 1945 he signed the unconditional surrender of the German armed forces in Berlin. In November 1945 he stood trial in Nuremberg.

Wilhelm Keitel (1882-1946) – niemiecki wojskowy, szef Naczelnego Dowództwa (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht), zbrodniarz wojenny sądzony w Norymberdze. Urodził się 22 września 1882 roku w Helmscherode na terenie Niemiec. Był synem Carla Keitla i Appolonii Vissering. Pochodził ze średnio zamożnej rodziny.
Keitel is among the twelve generals who receive their promotion to field marshal shortly after Germany's victory over France. Hitler also grants him 100,000 Reichmarks which greatly embarrasses Keitel causing him to transfer the money into a blocked account. Devoted to his duties, he takes his leave only once during the war in the summer of 1940.
Wilhelm Keitel se narodil 2. září 1882 v Helmscherode u Brunšviku. Do armády vstoupil roku 1901 jako dělostřelecký důstojník. Krátce po vypuknutí 1. světové války byl povýšen na kapitána. Dne 11. listopadu 1914 mu byla svěřena dělostřelecká baterie.
