1 de abr. de 2021 · WHEN ELM COURT ESTATE was built in 1886, William Douglas Sloane and Emily Thorn Vanderbilt spared no expense. Premier architectural firm Peabody and Stearns designed the home, and Frederick Law Olmsted, the architect of New York City’s Central Park, planned the gardens.

8 de may. de 2019 · William Douglas Sloane (known as Douglas) was born on 4 June 1890 at Mulwala Station north of Yarrawonga, VIC. He attended school at Geelong and gained an interest in aviation, first building rubber-powered models, some with wingspans up to 0.60 m (2 ft), most having “a tail like a wedge-tailed eagle”.
William Douglas Sloane was born at Mulwala, New South Wales in 1890. He enlisted on 2nd October, 1916 as a 26 year old Motor Engineer from Mulwala. He embarked from Melbourne on 25th October, 1916 with the 2nd Australian Flying Squadron “B” Flight.
Elm Court was built as the Berkshire summer home of William Douglas Sloane and Emily Thorn Vanderbilt, a member of the wealthy American Vanderbilt family.

William Douglas Sloane (1844-1915) was the third son of William and Euphemia Douglas Sloane. He was born in New York City on February 29, 1844, and at the age of 15 began working with the firm of W. & J. Sloane, the furniture company of which his father was a founder.
