Biography of William Bentinck, 2nd Duke of Portland (1709-1762) William was in his minority when he succeeded as 2nd Duke of Portland in 1726. His education had been completed largely at the hands of John Achard, a Swiss scholar who spent many years residing at the family seat of Bulstrode.

12 de mar. de 2024 · William Bentinck, 2nd Duke of Portland. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a trustee of the British Museum. In 1734 he married Margaret-Cavendish Harley, daughter of the 2nd Earl of Oxford. She was a great patron of the arts and sciences. He was buried on 8th May 1762 and she on 30th July 1785. Their son William became Prime Minister.
