Viscount Brentford, of Newick in the County of Sussex, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1929 for the Conservative politician Sir William Joynson-Hicks, 1st Baronet, chiefly remembered for his tenure as Home Secretary from 1924 to 1929.
British; Home Secretary 1924–9; Bt. 1919, Viscount Brentford 1929 Educated at Merchant Taylors' School, Joynson-Hicks became a successful solicitor. He changed his surname from Hicks to Joynson-Hicks (to include his wife's maiden name) in 1896 and was commonly called ‘Jix’.
