William Kissam Vanderbilt II was born on 2 March 1878 to William Vanderbilt and Alva Krskine Smith in New York City. William married Virginia Graham Fair in 1899. They had three children: William Kissam III, Muriel, and Consuelo. They separated after ten years, but were not divorced until 1927.
