19 de dic. de 2019 · At the Constitutional Convention, Patterson was a strong defender of the small states, and he led the fight against proportional representation. He proposed the New Jersey Plan which would have given each state equal representation in congress.
14 de abr. de 2022 · William Paterson came to be known as the “Father of the U.S. Senate,” as it was felt that it was his influence and the New Jersey Plan that caused the Senate to be created. Paterson served in the U.S. Senate from 1789 to 1790, during which time he played a pivotal role in drafting the Judiciary Act of 1789.
