He was the only surviving son of William Seymour, 2nd Duke of Somerset, and Lady Frances Devereux. He married Sarah, daughter and co-heiress of Sir Edward Alston and widow of George Grimston in exchange for a dowry of £10,000.

When William Seymour (1st Marquis and 2nd Earl of Hertford, 2nd Duke of Somerset) was born on 1 September 1587, in Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire, England, United Kingdom, his father, Edward Seymour Viscount Beauchamp, was 25 and his mother, Honora Rogers, was 25. He married Lady Arabella Stuart in 1610, in Essex, England, United Kingdom.
Seymour compounded for his estates on the Oxford Articles, but his original fine of £12,603 was reduced to £8,375 in January 1648 after he demonstrated that much of his estate was held for life only.54 At the Restoration he received the Garter and was restored as duke of Somerset, but he died on 24 Oct. 1660 and was buried in the family vault at Great Bedwyn on 1 Nov. following.55 His will ...
William Seymour, 3rd Duke of Somerset (17 April 1652 – 12 December 1671) was the son of Henry Seymour, Lord Beauchamp, and Mary Capell. As both his father and two elder uncles had predeceased him, he succeeded to the dukedom on the death of his grandfather William Seymour .
