Theophilus Goldridge Pinches, Lord William Amhurst Tyssen-Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney (1835-1909), put together what came to be one of the most wide-ranging and important collections of cuneiform tablets to have been assembled in private hands in this country.
Biographical / Historical. William Amhurst Tyssen-Amherst (1835-1909), 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney, was a collector of rare books, manuscripts, tapestries, antique furniture, and other works of art for more than fifty years. In 1906 Lord Amherst sold a portion of his library.

William Amhurst Tyssen-Amherst, primer barón Amherst de Hackney , DL , JP (25 de abril de 1835 - 16 de enero de 1909) fue un miembro conservador británico del Parlamento y coleccionista de libros y obras de arte.
The collector William Tyssen-Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst of Hackney was his first cousin. His father was a solicitor and antiquarian, author of a book on the charters of Carmarthen. He also made a significant collection of historical materials on the borough of Hackney and neighbouring boroughs.
