Willy Pogany (1880-1955) Born in August 1882 in Szged, Hungary, Willy Pogany’s career as an illustrator had a humble beginning. After attending a technical school for less than one year and taking only one art class, Pogany decided to develop his artistic abilities by traveling around Europe.
William Andrew Pogany was a prolific Hungarian illustrator of children's and other books. His contemporaries include C. Coles Phillips, Joseph Clement Coll, Edmund Dulac, Harvey Dunn, Walter Everett, Harry Rountree, Sarah Stilwell Weber, and N.C. Wyeth. He is best known for his pen and ink drawings of myths and fables.
BIOGRAPHY: Willy Pogany. Willy Pogany was born in August 1882 in Szged, Hungary. He attended Budapest Technical School for less than a year and took an art class for only six weeks. He went on to develop his art skills himself as he traveled. He sold his first painting to a wealthy patron for twenty-four dollars.
