Louis Daniel Armstrong [a] [b] (Nueva Orleans, 4 de agosto de 1901 [c] -Nueva York, 6 de julio de 1971), también conocido como Satchmo o Pops, fue un trompetista y cantante estadounidense de jazz. Armstrong's manager, Joe Glaser, changed the Armstrong big band on August 13, 1947, into a six-piece traditional jazz group featuring Armstrong with (initially) Teagarden, Earl Hines and other top swing and Dixieland musicians, most of whom were previously leaders of big bands.
His music had such an important effect on jazz history that many scholars, critics, and fans call him the first great jazz soloist. Armstrong’s influence extended far beyond jazz; the energetic, swinging rhythmic momentum of his playing was a major influence on soloists in every genre of American popular music.
