"The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" is the best performing Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise track, entering and re-entering multiple Billboard charts since its release.
•More than 2.5 million copies were sold in three weeks, the fastest selling record in 1958.
•The song charted #1 on the Hot 100 December 22, 1958 and maintained its position for four weeks before falling in 1959.
•The song remained the only holiday-themed song to ever chart #1 on the Hot 100 until December 2019; Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" finally reached #1 on the chart 61 years later, 25 years after her song's original release.
•Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. finished writing the song on November 7, 1958.
•Three versions of the song were created before the Bagdasarian family decided on only one to be released: an instrumental, one called "In a Village Park," and "The Chipmunk Song."
•This is the first song to officially be credited to The Chipmunks and is their musical debut.
