When Daria was four, Oleg and Gene made the difficult decision to institutionalize Daria (1943-2010). Daria spent most of her life at the ELWYN, an institution for specially disabled in Vineland, NJ. Gene Tierney never fully recovered from the blow that Daria was disabled.
She had two daughters, Antoinette Daria Cassini (October 15, 1943 – September 11, 2010) and Christina "Tina" Cassini (November 19, 1948 – March 31, 2015) who died from ovarian cancer. [citation needed] In June 1943, while pregnant with Daria, Tierney contracted rubella (German measles), likely from a fan ill with the disease.

The collapse of her marriage put Tierney over the edge, and she had to withdraw from the cast of 1953’s “Mogambo”; her part went to up-and-comer Grace Kelly.
