The answer is exceedingly simple. Barnard is a women's college that pays a hefty fee to affiliate with Columbia. It is not the same as actually attending Columbia, though you will get many perks as a Barnard student including campus access, ability to cross-register, and eligibility for athletics, clubs, etc.
