7 de abr. de 2024 · On September 25, 1066, King Harold II of England (Tostig's brother) marched his army from the south of England where they were awaiting the Normans up to York and halted the Norwegian invasion at the Battle of Stamford Bridge, in which Tostig and Harald III were both killed.

Harold didn’t actually order the charge down the hill at Hastings. After the battle of Stamford Bridge, he lost a large number of well trained, experienced soldiers. When he heard that William had landed on the South coast he quickly marched his army down and recruited inexperienced soldiers to fill the ranks.
