William John Clifton Haley was born on July 6, 1925, in Highland Park, Michigan to Kentucky-born dad William Albert Haley and mum Maude Green, who originally hailed from Ulverston, in Lancashire, England. When the young Bill was just seven, the family upped sticks and moved from Detroit to Bethel Township, Pennsylvania.
